SUMMER NIGHT ESCAPE: Ep. 1
Feb. 21st, 2026 05:52 pm
Muku: Here are the results of my practice test from the other day.
Tutor: ...You got an 80%, so that's safe. I'm also glad you got more questions correct in this section, too.
Tutor: It doesn't seem like the scoring will be an issue, so let's continue with the plan like this.
Muku: Thank you!

Muku: (I'm glad the teacher said that, since I wasn't that confident in this past mock exam.)
Kumon: Oh? Welcome back, Muku!
Muku: Are you coming home from a workshop, Kyuu-chan?
Kumon: Yup! You must be coming home from cram school. Good work~!
Muku: Good work today too, Kyuu-chan. How was it?
Kumon: Today was super exciting!
Kumon: We did a death game-themed etude and it got super heated! I was running all over the place!
Kumon: I'm gonna stretch properly once we get home. Gotta let your body rest~.
Muku: You're working hard, huh.
Kumon: You're also working hard! It's just like you to aim for a public university. I'm proud of you.1
Muku: I haven't passed the exam and gotten in yet, though.
Kumon: But it's you, of course it'll become reality!
Kumon: And even then, it's still incredible! Your parents are happy, too!
Muku: Thanks. I'll work hard to pass.

Misumi: ......
Muku: We're back.
Kumon: Huh? Oh, Sumi-san is reading a book!
Misumi: Welcome back~.
Muku: What book are you reading?
Misumi: The Little Prince!2 I only just started reading it, but the pictures are so cute~.
Kumon: Ooh, they are~.
Muku: Ah! That's a really famous book. I also read it when I was in elementary school.
Kumon: Of course you would have, Muku! For me, I think it was... actually, I don't think I ever read it.
Muku: It's been a while since I read it. Outside of there being a prince and a pilot, I don't remember much else.
Misumi: We're doing a similar motif in the reading troupe I'm in. I wanted to use it as reference, so I went and found it in the library~.
Muku: Really? I wanna come see your performance.
Kumon: But it's only a matinee showing on a weekday....
Misumi: Yeah.... Everyone in Summer Troupe has work and school and stuff, so it doesn't seem possible.
Muku: That's too bad....
Misumi: Ah, but I invited Madoka, and since he doesn't have classes he's able to come!
Kumon: That's great, Sumi-san!
Misumi: Yup! Ehehe~!
Tenma: Hey, our briefing meeting is about to start.
Muku: Ah! That's right!
Misumi: I forgot~!
Kumon: We're coming now~!
Izumi: In this meeting, I want to discuss Summer Troupe's upcoming twelfth play.
Tenma: First came Winter Troupe, then Autumn, and now it's our turn.
Kazunari: It's our season!3
Muku: Since we started with Winter Troupe this time I felt like we still had a lot of time, but now it's our turn before we knew it.
Yuki: It feels kinda weird, going after Autumn Troupe.
Kumon: I'm ready! Seeing my nii-chan's performance really motivated me!
Tsuzuru: Before we do anything else though, I want to talk about and decide on a theme.
Izumi: Winter Troupe and Autumn Troupe both broke new ground and did something a little different from their usual troupe image. How about you guys?
Tenma: I think it could be good for us to face a new challenge and do something a little different from our usual plays.
Yuki: Something different from our usual plays... so you mean, rather than it being bright and cheerful, something more dark?
Kumon: Like a death game?!
Muku: Oh right, you said you did that as an etude in your workshop today.
Misumi: Sounds interesting~!
Kazunari: We haven't done a performance with a kind of dangerous vibe.
Izumi: Of course, since Summer Troupe are all good friends and play around a lot, I think it would be good to have some fights and conflicts.
Tsuzuru: I think it will be interesting to use Summer Troupe's good friendship to our advantage.
Tenma: And I think it'll be effective since it's us, and not another troupe.
Kumon: I want it to be something like playing tag with your life on the line!
Misumi: I also wanna play tag~!
Tenma: No, but death games are no where near as carefree as tag....
Yuki: But it should be fine if we leave behind our carefree side a bit? Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense for us to do it.
Muku: I also wanna live up to our fans expectations.
Tsuzuru: A death game for Summer Troupe....
Izumi: Tsuzuru-kun, is it coming together?
Tsuzuru: I'll try making a plot along those lines.
Tenma: Who should we cast for the lead role?
Kazunari: Since it's a death game, it'll be unexpected no matter who it is~.
Kumon: You gotta be fast for tag, so what about Muku and Sumi-san?
Muku: Eh? Me?
Misumi: I think you can do it!
Tenma: Are we deciding this like a game of tag....
Kazunari: Since it's a death game, it'll be unexpected no matter who it is~.
Tsuzuru: But Muku, as well as Yuki, are about to take exams. They'll have to balance both the play and studying.
Yuki: It's suffocating if all I do is study for exams, so making costumes and rehearsing will be a good change of pace. It'll be good work-life balance.
Muku: Me too. I've been waiting for our twelfth play for a long time. Because of Winter and Autumn going first, the time until our turn has been longer.
Muku: If you'll entrust me with it, I want to do my best on the play and my studies.
Yuki: What a positive outlook, that's unusual.4
Muku: But I might fail my exam....
Tenma: And then suddenly right back to being negative.
Misumi: You'll be fine! You're always working hard, so you'll definitely be able to do both!
Kumon: Yeah yeah! You've been studying at cram school until late every night, after all!
Kazunari: We'll also support you however we can.
Tenma: And in terms of exams, we also have a lot of reliable tutors in this company.
Muku: Thanks. I'll do my best.
Kazunari: You can also ask me for help on the Amabi exam anytime, Yukkii!
Yuki: Banri already taught me lots of things, so I'm good.
Kazunari: No, but wasn't I the first to get into Amabi?!
Izumi: But don't overdo it, you two. If you ever feel like you're getting overwhelmed, let us know.
Tsuzuru: So how about for the time being, I'll consider Muku and Ikaruga-san as the lead actors, and then we can confirm it all once the script is done?
Izumi: Yes, that sounds good.
Misumi: I wonder what kind of script it'll be. I can't wait~!
1 I've heard that in Japan and some other countries, public universities are slightly more competetive for acceptance than private universities, since more people apply to public ones so more applicants are competing for a single seat. Also, Kumon says something like "my cousin that I'm proud of". pien [↑]
2 In real life, The Little Prince's Japanese name is actually "The Star Prince" (星の王子さま, Hoshi no Oujisama). Here, it's literally written as "Little Prince" (小さな王子さま). [↑]
3 This event happened in October. [↑]
4 It sounds like he's being snarky but he's not I promise LMAO he's smiling as he says this [↑]
